#1 Tree Removal & Trimming Service Provider
in Tampa
Tampa Elite Tree Service trims most palms for $75 to $300 each, and most hardwood pruning jobs land inside the $400 to $2,500 range that covers the bulk of our tree work. Where you fall depends on the species, the height and how much of the canopy actually needs attention.
A row of sabal palms along a Westshore pool deck is a quick, repeatable job. A spreading live oak with limbs over two roofs in Davis Islands is a full day of rope work.
Below we break down what drives trimming prices here, including the City's 24-inch pruning permit rule and the Tampa Electric lines that run through so many backyards.
All prices are the ones we use on real estimates. Nothing here replaces a site visit, which is free.
Palms are priced per tree because the work is similar from one to the next: climb or lift, remove dead fronds and seed stalks, lower everything safely.
Canary Island date palms cost more partly because of disease control. UF/IFAS recommends soaking tools in disinfectant for five minutes between them to avoid spreading Fusarium wilt, and we do that on every one. Timing questions are answered in our guide on when to trim palm trees in Tampa.
Live oaks, laurel oaks and southern magnolias are priced by the hour and by the size of the crown. Lifting a laurel oak off a roof and thinning a little deadwood usually sits near the low end of that range. Structural pruning on a 60-foot live oak with a crane assist, which adds $500 to $1,500 on its own, can reach the top of the $2,500 range.
UF/IFAS research after Hurricane Andrew compared seven broadleaf species and found 73 percent survival in properly pruned trees against 47 percent in unpruned ones. Wind moves through a thinned, balanced crown instead of pushing against a solid sail, and limbs with healthy attachments hold. Our tree trimming and pruning follows ANSI A300 standards, which means no topping and no lion-tailing.
The City of Tampa requires a pruning permit for any tree 24 inches or larger in diameter, and a Natural Resources forester or a self-certified private arborist has to inspect before the permit is released. Plenty of oaks in Hyde Park, Palma Ceia and Seminole Heights are that big.
We handle the Accela application, but it can add days to the schedule. Outside the city, Hillsborough County, Temple Terrace and Pasco set their own rules. See our Tampa tree permit guide for the full breakdown.
Tampa Electric's line-clearance arborists trim around the main distribution lines, but keeping the service wire to your house clear is the customer's job. Only qualified line-clearance workers should cut inside the 10-foot approach space around energized lines.
When a limb sits on or near your service drop, we may need TECO to de-energize it first, and that coordination adds time to the job. For the main lines on the pole, report the limb to Tampa Electric directly; they trim those at no charge to you.
Backyards behind privacy fences in Carrollwood or Town 'n' Country mean hand-carrying brush to the chipper. Open front yards are faster. We include chipping and hauling in the quote, so the price you see covers a clean lawn.
Sometimes pruning reveals decay, a split union or a lean that needs more than a trim. If the tree is past saving, we will say so and price tree removal separately so you can compare. If cabling would let you keep the tree, we price tree cabling and bracing as a separate option rather than adding it without asking.
Pruning booked in winter or early spring costs our normal rate. After a storm, broken limbs hung up in a canopy are emergency tree work billed at 1.5 to 2 times standard rates. Planning your trimming before June 1 is the simplest way to stay at normal pricing.
Palms only need a visit when dead fronds and seed stalks pile up, which varies by species. Young oaks gain the most from structural pruning while their main limbs are still forming, and mature hardwoods can go several years between visits. Fast-growing laurel oaks deserve closer watching, since UF/IFAS notes that even small pruning wounds can start decay columns running 10 to 20 feet inside the trunk. A tree health diagnostics check every so often catches that before it shows.
Tell us which trees and what bothers you about them. We will walk the yard, check permit size and wires, and give you a written per-tree price at no cost.
